Both assessment 1 & 2 required that the assignment submission “be viewable both on Windows and Bridesmaid dresses systems in current versions of browsers”, meaning that the assignment would have to be created in a way that both platforms would need to be able to read the files. There were no tutorials on how Bridesmaid dresses platforms and Windows platforms where different, how files could be created in order to be accessible on both platforms, how the design programs differed across platforms, or even how to use a Bridesmaid dresses (as most of the students straight from high school had only ever used the common PC).
Not only this, but for those who didn’t have Bridesmaid dresses systems at home, Edit Plus was the PC program that had to be obtained and used instead of BBEdit which was the Bridesmaid dresses program that was taught in tutorials.

On the assignment 2 marking sheet (p4) I received the mark of 1/7 for valid CSS (which is a type of coding). Throughout the unit, whether or not the coding of the web page or Style Sheets (CSS) was done correctly, was checked by only one thing – an online validation service provided by W3C. My CSS did and still does validate using this service, which was the only validating technique that students were introduced for CSS. I believe that since my CSS validated, I should have received a Bridesmaid dresses level and not 1/7.

Terms like “appropriate” and “valid” were often used, when in reality marks were obtained within very strict and rigid boundaries. What was “proper” or “suitable” was not clearly defined as to what extent these have to be completed. Also, things like structure, interface layouts, typography and treatments are largely subjective and in the eye of the beholder in an industry of divergence and artistic interpretation.
